THE NWANYI OMA STORY

Nwanyi Oma is the vision of Somi Nwandu, a Nigerian-Scottish-American curator whose rich cultural heritage and diverse background infuses every aspect of our brand. With a foundation built at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the Art Institute in New York City and SOAS University of London, Somi has spent her academic and professional career of 10+ years immersed in the worlds fashion, art, and cultural expression, crafting a unique style that bridges continents and cultures. Nwanyi Oma was birthed out of the need for something new and different in individual style - a heritage touch.

Somi began styling as a personal passion and hobby, which expanded into creative and art direction, branding and to professional style curation for fashion brands, editorial purposes, events and especially brides-to-be with Nwanyi Oma. Studying at FIT in New York City, she had the opportunity to work with major fashion stakeholders and brands in the industry including Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Tom Ford, Macy’s, Alexander Wang, Ralph Lauren and more, which further strengthened her first love and second nature - fashion styling.

On a larger scale, Somi Nwandu is not just a stylist but a catalyst for progressive thinking and innovation especially within the realm of African art, fashion, creativity, and culture. With an impressive career spanning fashion industries and artistic spaces, Somi is renowned for her unique styles and commitment to breaking boundaries and reshaping narratives to create a more inclusive and interconnected global community. Her work is a testament to her purpose to foster global collaborations, amplify African voices, and empower others to embark on journeys of self-discovery and creative expression.

Nwanyi Oma translates to ‘Good Woman’ and/or ‘Beautiful Woman’ in the Igbo language of Nigeria, and is also a precious nickname of Somi’s by her paternal grandmother. It reflects the grace, strength, and beauty that every woman embodies and that we aim to bring to every client we serve.
